Plan your expedition, slow your pace, and let the wild world come to you.

Why travel with

Still Wild Expeditions?

Ethics, expertise, and extraordinary experiences

Our Mission

We aim to create transformative travel experiences that connect travelers deeply with nature and local culture while minimizing impact. We believe in ethical wildlife observation, fair collaboration with local communities, and leading with respect for every ecosystem and each person we encounter.

Meet the Founder

Celso Cárdenas – Founder & Lead Expedition Guide

Wild Expeditions was founded by Celso Cárdenas, a naturalist guide and expedition leader with over 19 years of experience leading small-group journeys across South America. In 2024 he received the Sumner-Thoren Award – Best Trip Leader in the World

recognizing his deep field knowledge, calm leadership and respectful approach to wildlife and local communities. A passionate birdwatcher, Amazon naturalist and Galápagos tour leader, he now often shares the trail with his young son – a little adventurer who reminds him that every journey is also about what we pass on to the next generation.)

Travel That Makes a Difference

Where wildlife is respected, people are honored, and your journey leaves a positive footprint.

Ethical wildlife viewing

We believe that truly wild moments don’t need to be forced. Our trips follow strict guidelines: no baiting, no harassment, minimal playback, respectful distances and itineraries designed around animal welfare, not just checklists. This means fewer “staged” encounters and more authentic, unforgettable ones – the kind that stay with you for life, not just for the photo.

Local experts, real connections

We work hand in hand with local guides, communities and family-run projects in every country we visit. You don’t just see a landscape – you meet the people who call it home, listen to their stories and, when possible, share a meal or a moment with them. Our expeditions are built to create genuine human connection, not just quick stops for photos.

Travel that gives back

Travel can protect or destroy. We choose the first path. Whenever possible, we support local conservation, education and community projects through the partners we work with and the trips we design. Each itinerary is crafted to leave a lighter footprint while creating deeper impact for the places and people you visit.

Where we travel

From the Galapagos islands & condors soaring over the Andes to jaguars slipping through Pantanal wetlands,
from Patagonian winds to the warm rain of Central America’s forests – our journeys follow the wild heart of the continent. Ecuador is our home base, but our trips go far beyond its borders.

Ecuador

A compact country with extraordinary diversity: Andean páramos, cloud forests, Amazon rainforests and the legendary Galápagos Islands. Ideal for travelers who want maximum wildlife, landscapes and culture in minimum travel time.

Brazil

Our Brazil journeys explore the country’s wild heart: Pantanal for jaguars, Bonito for crystal-clear rivers and vibrant aquatic life, and Parque das Emas for elusive maned wolves—vast landscapes, open skies, and unforgettable night drives.

Peru

Where ancient cultures meet wild nature: Andes, Machu Picchu, Sacred Valley and highland communities blend archaeology, living traditions and wildlife—perfect for sunrise ruins, midday markets and misty ridges with Andean birds.

Colombia

A paradise of birds, music and color: from Andes to Caribbean, Colombia blends forests, coffee landscapes, colonial towns and biodiversity—ideal for travelers seeking rare species by day and music at night.

Chile & Argentina

Think Patagonia: glaciers, steppe, vast coastlines and endless horizons. These journeys reveal immense landscapes and wildlife—pumas, condors, whales—celebrating wind, silence, and the solitude of remote places at the world’s end.

Costa Rica

A global ecotourism pioneer: compact, wild, easy to explore. From cloud forests to Osa and Corcovado, it offers chances to see monkeys, sloths, macaws—ideal for travelers seeking nature and simple logistics.

Experiences designed around you

Every traveler is different. Instead of pushing standard “copy-paste” packages,
we start with who you are and what you love. Then we design a journey that fits.

Birding & wildlife expeditions
For birders, mammal-watchers and nature lovers who enjoy early mornings, field guides and the thrill of a distant call getting closer.
Photography journeys
For photographers who want the time, light and logistics needed to create strong images – not just quick snapshots between buses.
Culture & history trips
For travelers who want to understand the human side of the landscape: food, music, markets, traditions, stories and everyday life.
Family & school adventures
For families and educational groups who want safe, meaningful, hands-on experiences in nature and local culture.
Custom itineraries
For couples, friends or private groups who know what they want (or just what they don’t want) and need a trusted partner to turn ideas into a realistic, ethical plan.

What travelers say

My sister and I had a great day exploring the Mindo Valley with our guide Celso! He was very knowledgeable, attentive to our needs, and ready to tailor the tour to our requests. We really appreciated this private tour. The best experience!

ANNALISA M

Celso organized a day trip for us to the Mindo area. We went bird watching and visited a butterfly park. The guide and transportation were perfect. The recommended place for lunch was delicious, and we also had the opportunity to visit an orchid garden. I highly recommend him and Ecuador as a destination.

Sharron O

Celso is incredible; he shared his vast knowledge of geology, climate, and birds. They took good care of us. I would highly recommend taking any tour with him. He is very patient and compassionate about his country, and he freely answered and discussed all topics.
