Spend a full day exploring one of the wildest high-Andean landscapes near Quito: the Antisana Ecological Reserve. This is a day of big skies, quiet páramo and some of the best chances to see the Andean Condor in its natural environment.
We will combine scenic drives, short walks and patient observation at lookouts, always at an easy, flexible pace. This is not a strenuous hiking day – it is designed for travelers who want to enjoy landscapes, wildlife and photography without rushing.
Meet your naturalist guide at your hotel and depart towards the Antisana area. On the way, your guide will introduce the landscape, the concept of páramo and the importance of Antisana for water and wildlife.

Arrive at the highlands and make your first scenic stop. From here, we scan the cliffs and skies for Andean Condors and other raptors. Your guide will set the pace: short walks, photo stops and time with binoculars.

Continue deeper into the reserve, visiting a lagoon or wetland area (site may vary depending on conditions and park regulations). Gentle walking on mostly flat ground while looking for Andean Coots, highland ducks, Andean Gulls and Black-faced Ibises feeding in the grasslands. Your guide will also explain the vegetation: grasses, frailejones (Espeletia) and other páramo plants.
Afterward, you will have time for one or two more stops at viewpoints or along the road, making the most of any last chances to see condors or other wildlife. The pace remains relaxed, with time for photos and questions.
Lunch at a local lodge, restaurant or community-run place, depending on your specific program and availability. Expect warm soups, main courses with local ingredients and hot drinks. Vegetarian options are usually available; please inform us of any dietary needs in advance.
Begin the return journey to Quito. Your guide will recap the day, from condors and foxes to water, páramo and conservation stories.
