Arrival in Cuiabá, Brazil and drive to the Pantanal.

The onward journey into the Pantanal begins, reaching the lodge after approximately 80 km (100 km total from the airport).

At the entrance we already look for typical bird species such as Chestnut-bellied Guan, Great Rhea, Plumbeous Ibis, Jabiru, Turquoise-fronted Parrot, Barred Antshrike, Rufous Cacholote, Purplish Jay and Scarlet-headed Blackbird.

Overnight at Piuval Lodge.

Meals: Lunch and dinner.

Early morning birding around the lodge before breakfast (05:00–08:00).

After breakfast, we explore the pastures and dead trees searching for White-fronted Woodpecker and other species including Black-bellied Antwren, Mato Grosso Antbird, White-lored Spinetail and Ashy-headed Greenlet.

After lunch and rest at the lodge, we take a boat trip on the Bento Gomes River for aquatic birdlife and sunset.

Night safari focused on owls and nightjars such as Black-banded Owl, Pauraque, Little Nightjar and Great Potoo.

Morning safari drives before and after breakfast in the open steppe areas of the lodge.

After lunch we check out and travel south along the Transpantaneira, stopping frequently to search for birds and wildlife concentrated around remaining water bodies during the dry season.

Arrival in Porto Jofre at the end of the Transpantaneira for a two-night stay.

Full days exploring the Cuiabá River by speedboat searching for jaguars.

The region benefits from active conservation programs and protected areas such as Encontro das Águas State Park, increasing chances of sightings.

Giant Otters, Capybaras and abundant birdlife including Large-billed and Yellow-billed Terns and Black Skimmers may also be observed.

Overnight at lodge in Porto Jofre.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Morning walk along the main road searching for forest birds such as Bare-faced Curassow, Blue-throated Piping-Guan, Cream-colored Woodpecker, Golden-green Woodpecker, Fawn-breasted Wren and Moustached Wren.

Before lunch we drive back along the Transpantaneira to another lodge near Rio Claro.

Arrival in the early evening.

Overnight at Hotel Mato Grosso.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner.

After an early breakfast, a small boat excursion explores a slow-flowing jungle river rich in aquatic plants.

Target species include Agami Heron, Boat-billed Heron and Green-and-rufous Kingfisher.

Later we visit feeders searching for Nanday Parakeet.

After lunch we travel to São José do Rio Claro towards the next birding destination, the Gardens of the Amazon.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Birding in the South Amazon Forest with high diversity of antbirds and parrots.

Possible sightings include Amazonian Umbrellabird, Blue-and-yellow Macaw, Yellow-faced Macaw, Madeira Parakeet and Blue-headed Parrot.

Boat trips and short hikes lead to an oxbow lake habitat of the rare Cone-billed Tanager.

The Screaming Piha, known as the ‘voice of the tropical jungle’, accompanies many excursions.

During midday breaks guests can relax around the lodge, enjoy natural pools, and observe wildlife such as lowland tapirs visiting fruit trees at night.

Departure towards the Cerrado region.

Before leaving we continue birding for missed species such as Western Striolated Puffbird, Rondonia Antwren and Tooth-billed Wren.

Then travel approximately 330 km to the dry savanna-like plateau of Chapada dos Guimarães at about 800 m elevation.

Target species include Red-legged Seriema, Red-and-green Macaw, Yellow-faced Parrot, Pheasant Cuckoo, Rufous-winged Antshrike, Chapada Flycatcher, Helmeted Manakin, Band-tailed Manakin, Coalcrest, Stripe-tailed Yellow-finch, White-rumped Tanager, White-banded Tanager, Cinnamon Tanager and Plumbeous Seedeater.

From scenic viewpoints we may also observe Biscutate Swifts, White-collared Swifts and possibly a King Vulture.
